a camp for young creatives
Returning Summer 2026!
Stories are everywhere - sometimes we write them down, sometimes we act them out, and sometimes we just imagine them in our heads. This three-day camp gives kids the space to explore storytelling in a way that feels fun and natural to them.
Through writing, art, and hands-on creativity, they'll build characters, create worlds, and share their ideas in a way that builds their confidence. With activities designed for rising 2nd-rising 6th graders, this camp is all about discovering the magic in the stories we tell.
THE STORY BOOTH
Roll the dice; tell your story!
Standing at 8' tall, The Story Booth is an immersive storytelling experience for folks of any age. Storytellers roll the cardboard dice and build a story out of what they see, stepping into the booth and leaving their tale as a message on the Story Phone.

Why we do what we do
The work of The Department of Curious Things all centers on one major philosophy: kids are vital.
We believe that kids aren't just the future...they are the here and now - a crucial part of our present reality.
We create experiences that nurture the inherent wisdom of childhood - a nature of play and wonder.
Our name is intentionally silly-serious because while we take our work and the kids we serve seriously, we also know that being playful is the best way to learn and grow (that's something we learned from kids).
