Welcome to The Department of Curious Things, INC. ("The Department," "we," "us," or "our"). By accessing our website, registering for our programs, or using our services, you ("you," "your," or "participant") agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. Please read them carefully.
1. About Us
The Department of Curious Things is a child-focused organization offering creativity and literacy programming to kids across Middle Tennessee. We are a Public Benefit Corporation incorporated in the State of Tennessee and operate under fiscal sponsorship with Fractured Atlas.
2. Eligibility & Parental Consent
Our programming is designed for children, and all registrations must be completed by a parent or legal guardian. By registering your child for any program, you represent that you are the parent or legal guardian of the child being enrolled and that you consent to their participation.
3. Program Registration & Payment
Registration for programs (including book clubs, camps, and events) is completed through our website or designated registration platform. Payment is due at the time of registration unless otherwise stated. All prices are listed in U.S. dollars.
We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule programming due to insufficient enrollment, weather, venue availability, or other circumstances. In the event we cancel a program, registered participants will receive a full refund.
4. Cancellations & Refunds
Refund and cancellation policies may vary by program and will be communicated at the time of registration. Unless a specific policy is stated, the following applies:
-
Cancellations made 14 or more days before a program begins are eligible for a full refund.
-
Cancellations made fewer than 14 days before a program begins may be eligible for a credit toward a future program at our discretion.
-
No-shows and same-day cancellations are generally not eligible for refunds.
5. SMS/Text Messaging
By providing your phone number and opting in to text communications, you consent to receive SMS messages from The Department of Curious Things for program reminders, schedule changes, and logistical updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.
You may opt out at any time by replying STOP. Text HELP for assistance. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
6. Assumption of Risk & Liability Waiver
Participation in Department programming involves activities typical of creative and educational experiences for children, including but not limited to arts and crafts, writing, group activities, and use of age-appropriate supplies and materials.
By registering your child, you acknowledge that participation is voluntary and that you assume all risks associated with your child's involvement. To the fullest extent permitted by Tennessee law, you agree to release, hold harmless, and indemnify The Department of Curious Things, INC., its founder, employees, volunteers, and agents from any and all claims, damages, or liability arising from your child's participation in our programming, except in cases of gross negligence or willful misconduct.
7. Photo & Media Release
We may photograph or video-record programming for use on our website, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials. By registering for a program, you grant The Department of Curious Things permission to use images and recordings of your child for these purposes unless you notify us in writing prior to the program that you do not consent.
To opt out of photo and media use, please email hello@thedepartmentofcuriousthings.com before your child's first session.
